Denial to the very end of civilization

Namaziano decides to leave the capital and return home, but the ports are blocked by sand, the cities have been abbandoned, the coutryside is in ruins. There are no longer inns for a traveller to rest along the roads; he is forced to travel by boat. The collapse of civilization is everywhere. But as everyone, he cannot explain it and doesn’t even see it. Days of glory will return. He is convinced that with the right weapons, a stronger army will chase the enemy away, and the civilized life will return. Everything will go back to normal. This document De Reditu was written a few years before the end of the roman empire of the West by Rutilio Namaziano. That civilization was built on the excellence of its roads and yet he was forced to return home to France from Rome in a boat. It is a direct testimony of how denial persists to the very end of civilization.
